Archive Policy
BM-Publisher is committed to the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of its published scholarly content. The following policy outlines how BM-Publisher ensures permanent archiving, data security, and continued availability of all journal materials in both electronic and print form.
1. Preservation Principles
- BM-Publisher guarantees that all published content remains permanently accessible, discoverable, and citable.
- Preservation activities follow best practices from the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC), Portico, and CLOCKSS frameworks.
- Each article is assigned a permanent Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to ensure consistent linking and citation.
2. Preservation Systems and Partners
- CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe): BM-Publisher participates in CLOCKSS for decentralized, dark-archive preservation to ensure restoration in case of catastrophic data loss.
- LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe): Library partners automatically harvest and locally store copies of published content for redundancy.
- Portico: BM-Publisher content is preserved in Portico to guarantee long-term access, even in the event of journal discontinuation.
- Publisher servers maintain mirrored databases in multiple geographic regions for redundancy.
3. Institutional and National Repositories
- All articles are indexed and archived in recognized databases such as Crossref, Google Scholar, and DOAJ.
- Institutional repositories are encouraged to store full-text versions of BM-Publisher articles under the CC BY 4.0 license.
- BM-Publisher collaborates with national and university digital libraries for redundancy and local preservation.
4. Author Self-Archiving
- Authors may deposit any version of their work (preprint, accepted manuscript, or final published PDF) in institutional or subject repositories immediately upon publication.
- Deposited versions must include a proper citation and DOI link to the Version of Record hosted by BM-Publisher.
- No embargo period applies to BM-Publisher journals.
5. Metadata and DOI Registration
- All metadata (titles, abstracts, keywords, authors, affiliations, DOIs, references, and funding information) are registered and maintained through Crossref.
- XML metadata conform to the JATS (Journal Article Tag Suite) standard to ensure interoperability and indexing in databases such as PubMed, DOAJ, and Scopus.
- Every version and correction maintains traceable metadata for transparency.
6. File Formats and Version Control
- Master files are stored in PDF/A and XML-JATS formats to ensure readability and long-term preservation.
- Additional formats (HTML, EPUB) are generated for accessibility and indexing.
- Version control is maintained; any post-publication updates (corrections, retractions) are linked bi-directionally to the original article.
7. Digital Integrity and Backups
- BM-Publisher performs daily encrypted backups of all data and content to secure servers in multiple data centers.
- Checksum verification (MD5/SHA256) is used to detect and correct any digital corruption.
- System integrity is reviewed periodically to ensure compliance with ISO 16363 (Trusted Digital Repository standard).
8. Perpetual Access and Continuity
- In the event that a journal ceases publication, BM-Publisher guarantees that all previously published materials will remain available through permanent archiving partners (CLOCKSS/Portico) and the BM-Publisher website.
- Libraries and repositories participating in LOCKSS may serve the preserved content to users under the CC BY 4.0 license.
9. Withdrawal and Retraction Archiving
- Retracted or withdrawn articles remain available in the archive, clearly marked and linked to retraction notices, to maintain transparency of the scholarly record.
- Metadata for retracted content remain indexed with DOIs pointing to the official retraction statement.
